Camille H - What does gender have to do with the rates of prevalence in asthma?
Asthma is a chronic disease having to do with the lungs of a person, which also causes difficulty with breathing. Inequity is known as the act of discrimination, or the lack of fairness. Throughout this essay, the connection between asthma and inequity, sometimes inequalities, will be expressed. There are many different social, economical, and environmental inequities that affect which people have a higher prevalence of asthma. Gender, race, and income status will also be explained as inequalities and inequities that affect the life of an asthmatic. Some health inequities such as these can determine who gets to live a healthy life and who does not. Asthmatics should have access to the proper health care needed to treat the symptoms that are caused by the asthma, but often do not. Asthma, the chronic lung disease, is most likely developed in the childhood of a person's life. During the childhood stage, asthma is more common in males rather than females. A theory states that this is due to a genetic factor: Boys have one less X chromosome than girls. During the teenage years of a person's life, the years of puberty (adolescence), asthma is stated to affect females more than males. This change caused by some hormonal differences in the female body which makes them more at risk for asthma.

Bergen J - What is the role of proximity to industry in asthma?
Asthma is a chronic lung disease characterized by the narrowing and inflammation of airways. It is a multifactorial disease, meaning there are several factors that can cause asthma. Two of those, environmental and genetics, are talked about in this paper. Proximity to industry plays a large role in the occurrence of asthma, especially in individuals who live in urban areas because of those communities’ congestion. When organizations placed in such small places pump their pollutants out, people living closest to them are affected in many ways, one of those being the development of asthma. This can be a problem when families live near industries, children are educated near low air quality, or adults work around pollutants. Another sizable point is the role of genetics in asthma. Certain genes have been found to raise the risk of asthma developing in both children and adults alike, and some are even linked to certain ethnic groups. The research into the correlation between genetics and asthma is far from over, but while scientists have not yet narrowed down the genes responsible for asthma, they are continuing their studies.
